I try and equip customers with high-quality products and dependable running and walking gear that is designed to last. I encourage and empower people to get outside, reconnect with nature side by side with their best friend, and in doing so, embark on a life of great adventure together.
Where it all started
Tail Runner was founded in 2015 by Karen Barrett, who as an elite Ultra Marathon Runner, saw a need for a better dog running leash: a necessary piece of gear that played an indispensable role in training on trails with her kelpie "Cadence".
Karen knew that a well-made hands-free leash would not only help improve her training while keeping Cadence safe, but could also be a magnificent window into the Australian bush and inspire people to reconnect with their local parks, surroundings and nature.
The Hands Free Leash
The first of our collection was the One Piece Leash designed and produced by the end of 2015. It is has stood the test of time and quickly become a favourite amongst the local community. By the beginning of 2016 Karen had adopted another rescue Kelpie "Pace", so back to the drawing board to design a leash that would cater for 2 kelpies on the one system.
The result was the very robust Two Piece Leash. This system now has the reputation as being the most comfortable hands-free system available and has featured in the Australian Dog Lovers, the New Zealand Herald, Glam Adelaide Magazine and also Australian Pet Insurance.
All products are made for the discriminating consumer, priced and manufactured to compete with the best. We stitch our logo onto all our products as a measure of respect and pride, and the hard work it represents.
Beyond the Hands Free Leash
By the end of summer 2016, with the Two Piece Leash as our perch, we embarked on a new line of products, which include the Adventure Harness, neoprene lined collars and seatbelt restraints.
Our social running group grew, with members requesting shirts and apparel so we now have a line of Race Singlets, T-Shirts, Visor and Event Bib Clips.
This social running group also laid the foundation for a more ambitious project; the start of Tail Runner Events. These are Trail running events where you can enter and run with your dog, the first planned for the 22nd of July 2017, Riverwood Downs. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates to this event.
By supporting Tail Runner you are enabling Karen to help with working dog rescue groups and another project she is passionate about, helping "kids in care". This project is currently in its infancy but the concept is to introduce kids to trail running to give them that "back to basics" connection with nature and animals. This is having a very positive impact on those kids currently involved.
We are currently embarking on a new line of products, working hard to create modern designs while coming up with innovative solution for trail running enthusiasts and for people in general, who love spending time outdoors with their fur-kids. Working closely with esteemed designers and manufacturers the world over we continue to expand our catalogue with the same care and precision that goes into the making of every new product we offer.
I would like to take this opportunity and thank Sally Lynch from Barefoot Inc. for jumping on board and supplying the kids with running shoes and gear. Please support this wonderful Australian company for their generosity.
